The Face Of Birth
by Kate Gorman and Gavin Banks | AUS | 2012 | 87 min. | Engl. with German subtitles
Down Under Berlin film festival’s next special event screening is the Australian documentary The Face Of Birth by Kate Gorman and Gavin Banks. It is a film about the power of choice that women have in childbirth, an issue that is felt all over Europe and is prevalent in Germany today.
Directly after the screening we are holding a very special discussion panel with experts on home birth about the state of midwifery in Germany today and the debate around home birth and women’s rights on this subject.
As the most comprehensive film ever made on home birth and a voice of reason in the debate The Face of Birth depicts how every woman has the right to be informed about their options in childbirth. Is birth a medical emergency waiting to happen or a profound, natural and physiological event that women are designed for?
“Face of Birth is a powerful instrument enlightening the women`s right to choose the best care for them”. – Luciana Reberte Gouveia – Nurse, Midwive and PhD student, (Brazil)
The Face of Birth is an inspiring look at how wonderful birth can be when your right to choose how, where and with whom you give birth is respected and protected and what happens if it is not. The film also outlines the importance of education in birthing in order to be able choose the best and safest birth method for the mother and her baby.
“The Face of Birth is the finest educational and inspirational film on the subject of childbirth that I’ve ever seen” – US author, Suzanne Arms
