Berlin Syndrome

by Cate Shortland | AUS | 2017 | 116 min. | Engl. w/ Engl. subtitles for German spoken parts
Starring: Teresa Palmer, Max Riemelt, Matthias Habich

We can think of no better way to celebrate Australian film than previewing a film by an Australian, shot in Berlin and Australia and starring Australian and German actors. It’s basically the perfect DUB film, plus it’s a thriller so bound to be quite an exciting evening.

Not only will you get to see the film before most of Berlin does, but when you buy your tickets you are also invited to join us at a reception in the lounge, hosted by the Australian Embassy. There will be some stunning Australian wines and a chance to talk about the film with the rest of the audience, DUB members and of course, the Australian Embassy.

“It’s an exploration into the dynamic between two individuals. It delves into themes of love, lust, control, sexuality, loneliness, personal suffering and growth.” – Actress Teresa Palmer

This new film from Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland is a fabulous thriller set in Berlin, about a backpacker who finds herself trapped by someone she thought she could trust.

“On holiday, Australian traveller Claire (Teresa Palmer) meets charming English teacher Andi (Max Riemelt) and is immediately attracted to him. They spend one passionate night together. But this new romance begins to develop suddenly to one evil nightmare: When the next morning, Claire finds Andi has imprisoned her in the apartment, and he does not intend to ever let her go.”

Based on the novel by Melanie Joosten, this film was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2017 and had its European premiere at Berlinale 2017. Down Under Berlin are proud to be able to host this special preview one day before the film is released in Berlin!

Book your tickets here and check out the event on Facebook.
